Change to Format of the School Day Letter

As parents/carers of Year 11 pupils will be only too aware, the main GCSE examination period starts on Monday 15 May 2017, with the final exam taking place on Wednesday 21 June 2017. Because Year 11 pupils will have a number of afternoon exams, it will be necessary for us to swap Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 lunchtimes from Monday 15 May 2017 to Wednesday 21 June 2017 inclusively. This means that pupils in Year 10 and Year 11 will have an earlier lunch at 12.25 pm. This, in turn, will allow Year 11 pupils to be ready for afternoon exams, which start at 1.00 pm. As a result, pupils in Years 7, 8 and 9 will have lunch at 1.25 pm throughout this period.

Additionally, we will also swap the break times during this examination period. Consequently, Years 10 and 11 will take their break at 10.05 am, whilst Years 7, 8 and 9 will take their break at 11.05 am. Pupils will be informed regularly leading up to this period and you may wish to ensure that your child eats breakfast, if they will be changing to the later break and lunchtime.

I am sure that you will understand the need for this temporary change, as we seek to ensure that the GCSE exams run as smoothly as possible. From Thursday 22 June 2017, we will return to the current break and lunchtime arrangements.
