Brockington Pupils Steal the Spotlight!

enderbyyouthband1

Ten players from Enderby Youth Band, including current pupils Tianna Routley and Harvey Fretwell, and past pupils Zoe Johnson and Lewis Read, entertained a 2,000 capacity full house at the De Montfort Hall on Friday 19 May. They joined pop/rock star Tom Chaplin, the lead singer of Keane, on his solo UK tour. The band provided the brass accompaniment to two of his songs and they received one of the biggest cheers of the evening and a standing ovation. Tom described their performance as “magnificent” and it truly was.

The two songs ‘Quicksand’ and ‘The Wave’ had originally been recorded with a regimental brass band. Enderby Youth Band had the honour of being the first brass band to play these songs live with Tom. Tom posted a short clip of the sound check on his Instagram account, which has been seen by many of his 14,000 followers. This was a fantastic opportunity for the players and something that they’ll always remember. The Youth Band practice at Enderby Village Institute on Sunday evenings between 6.30 pm and 8.30 pm and extend a warm welcome to new brass players Grade 2/3 upwards.

The Junior and Youth Bands are holding a brass training weekend on 16 and 17 September at Lutterworth College. This event is open to all brass players under 25 years of age. Please see www.enderbybands.co.uk for more information.
