KS4 Extra-Curricular Opportunities

March 2015

Dear Parent/Carer

Extra-curricular opportunities at KS4

As we approach KS4, we are delighted to be able to offer pupils the opportunity to take part in three fantastic experiences over the next two years. We are proposing to lead trips to South Africa, Iceland and China. A summary of each trip is outlined below and further details are linked below.

South Africa: Miss Heggs is organising a trip to South Africa as part of our ongoing links with schools in South Africa and Kenya. This trip will run over the Summer Holidays of 2016 and as with previous trips there will be a rigorous selection process for those wishing to participate. Pupils that would like to be considered for this trip must recognise there is a time commitment before departure in order to raise funds and that the trip is not a holiday but an emotional experience of a lifetime.

Iceland: Mrs Clark will be running a trip for pupils to Iceland in September 2016. The trip will facilitate wonderful background knowledge for anyone who has chosen Geography as a GCSE option, although pupils who have not chosen this option, may also choose to apply for a place on this trip. There is a packed itinerary and an opportunity to visit one of the most dynamic regions in the world.

China: I will be leading a trip to China in March 2016. This is a cultural visit designed to enable pupils to see one of the most diverse countries in the World. It will include visits to very famous sites such as the Great Wall of China, as well as experiencing authentic Chinese living.

In order to facilitate the organisation of these trips and to allow pupil choice, all three trips are being launched simultaneously. Pupils are eligible to apply for all three trips should the funds and support be available from home, however, we recognise that this is unlikely. Should the trips be over-subscribed then the procedures laid out in the Educational Visits Policy on the school website will be implemented.

Please take the time to read the information attached to this letter and if your child is interested in participating in any of these trips, we would ask that you indicate your interest by returning the relevant reply slip(s) to school by Wednesday 15 April, 2015.

In the meantime if you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me at the college.

Yours sincerely,

Clare Darby

Vice Principal
